While trying new foods can make for a welcome change of pace, people often display resistance to dramatic changes. Nonetheless, history shows just how much people have made immense leaps in dietary exploration. Few modern people think it appropriate for others to suckle from a nursing dog or cat, but somehow other mammals like cows and goats regularly provide milk for the world. The milk industry has even come together to recommend milk consumption for children, but also for people of all ages. Considering the apparent absurdity of drinking the milk of a cow, cooking with the addition of tofu recipes does not demand nearly as much from a person.

Tofu recipes, like milk years ago, have gained substantial popularity over time with mainstream dining. Consequently, a number of fairly easy tofu recipes have made their way into the homes of the experimental or those with specific health concerns. Some see fried tofu and baked tofu recipes as a way of consuming something similar to meat, while also maintaining a vegetarian lifestyle or without upsetting a digestive system opposed to meat consumption.

One of the most widely used, easy tofu recipes comes in the form of tofu stir fry. For a stir-fried tofu, a firmer tofu makes for the best results. The rest of the recipe for tofu stir fry looks very similar to other stir fry recipes, involving east Asian staples such as peanut oil, water chestnuts, soy sauce, corn starch and cooked brown rice, among others. Mixing the ingredients in a pan set at a medium-high heat, so long as one carefully watches the food, should yield an aromatic and flavorful stir-fry.

Another of the most prevalent tofu recipes, tofu burgers often appear as part of a vegetarian alternative for major chains and even local restaurants. Again, for the sake of grilling, a harder, firmer tofu will enhance the finished product's success. Adding in diced onions, diced celery and grated carrots after some light cooking to crumbled tofu comprises most of the cooking required for the tofu burger. The last task of burger tofu recipes requires forming mixed ingredients into a patty-like shape, grilling until brown, and serving the food much like a regular burger.

The ease of cooking tofu and its ability to absorb a wide range of flavors has helped tofu recipes spread into households that otherwise shudder at diversifying the weekly menus. New food in the form of fried, grilled or baked tofu may help people appreciate tofu recipes in casual homes that those on the cutting edge of food innovation have enjoyed for some time. Perhaps a millennium from now, people will look back and wonder what led to tofu supplanting meat as a major food source. Compared to stealing milk from a cow for a daily coffee, eating tofu recipes seems not nearly as extreme a culinary, or for that matter, evolutionary, venture.
